    Description

    Antique 1860s-1870's (?) 6 String Minstrel Banjo.
I bought this from a woman in whose family it was passed down into. She gave me a type written document with it as I had asked about the history.. It was supposedly purchased from an man up the road  from her grandfather in 1895 and then used in a traveling minstrel group called "The Hall Brothers". The woman was related and the banjo passed down in her family. I will include her note, with 2 photo copied pictures of the family and a genealogical note. I'm unsure how old it is, but i know the eagle brackets and larger pot could put it at an earlier date. i would guess this as late 1860-1870.
The banjo is in good shape. It looks like perhaps a handmade neck on a bent oak pot. It is very sturdy and heavy. Rounded dowel, handmade tailpiece.  It has eagle bracket hardware and mother of pearl and mirror inlays on the neck. It needs new strings and is missing a few. But plays and would play again if a new set was added.
    Pot measures 13"  diameter
    Length is approx 36"

A note about shipping: costs have skyrocketed and I have eaten costs too many time recently. So if shipping is any less than what I am charging, I am happy to refund the difference. But unfortunately its costing quite a bit to ship instruments lately.
