    Description

So, up for sale is a circa 1928 Rydal 4 string tenor resonator banjo.
John Hafner and Eugene Sutphin open a music store in 1911. [Before that they worked together at Kretschmar s Music Store from around 1900].
1926 Hafner retires and the company became E.A. Sutphin.
    Rydal are US made instruments.
Rydal banjos were sold by E.A.Sutphin in the Philadelphia area circa 1928
This old banjo is all original except someone replaced the head at some time in the past. I replaced the missing tail piece, nut, and bridge and put on new strings. I sanded the bridge and nut down to a usable level. I'm leaving it up to  end user to adjust the action to their preference. It plays well and has an unbelievable tone. They just don't make them like they used to. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this instrument was used in a Philadelphia Mummer's String Band.
