    Description

FRAMUS TENOR BANJO great condition for its age. A guy of 78 years shouldn't have 5 banjos and a collection of other treasures, my wife says. So this one is for sale. An example of German engineering with some unique features that any collector will find interesting. I made minor repairs to the neck and pot to neck attachment. Date of manufacture was 1970 stamped in the headstock, made in West Germany. A new bridge and Irish tenor strings .013,17,26 and .035 were added, if capo up neck two frets, I kinda like the sound. Could easily be converted to 5 string with a replacement neck. A great feature is the top head skin adjustment so the resonator doesn't require removal. The present mahogany neck has a truss rod that works well as I adjusted it. This model is known in the banjo world as a wedding cake for its unique ornate resonator cover. The resonator itself is Honduras mahogany.  I retained the original head skin which is a tough plastic of some kind only because it had Framus printed on it.The skin has two minor holes. Does not affect sound. A new skin would be a deeper tone I believe. Feel free to ask questions, any reasonable offer will be considered, sold as is. Price is buy it now or make an offer. Please note this is heavy. Only lower 48.
