Description
For sale here is a Ludwig Stratford plectrum banjo. The scale length is 27 inches. According to the Tsumura book, the Stratford model was made from about 1925 through 1932. The serial number of this one is 2919 which would put it in the first couple of years of production. For a banjo that is almost 100 years old, this one is in excellent condition. The tailpiece is marked "Ludwig" and it has a patent date that I can't read. The head is skin and could be the original, who knows. The bridge is a Grover. The plating is all excellent +.
The finish on the resonator is crazed but in otherwise good condition. The back of the resonator has a couple of belt buckle scratches but nothing major. The neck is arrow straight. The frets are the original small frets . They show slight wear but are very playable and will last for a long time. There is NO fingerboard dishing. The tuners are the original Planets and are in excellent condition. I just tuned it up and have been playing it. Ludwigs and particularly Ludwigs with skin heads have a reputation for sounding a little "tubby" and this one is no exception. Sometimes that sound works. A friend, who is a nationally known player did a blind test of a bunch of banjos (his wife was in the next room) and she liked the sound of the Ludwig the best"
The case is the original and has the original Ludwig badge. It is kind of beat up but very useable.
We don't charge for packing but will charge the actual shipping cost. I'm guessing around .00
