    Description

Out of an old long closed  luthier shop in western Ma.  Today we have a partially carved 5 string banjo neck. I believe that this was intended for a  5 string resonator banjo , but the heel is only notched for the tension hoop.  The neck is high quality mahogany with what I think is a rosewood fretboard and headstock overlay . The peghead is already  drilled for tuners , but the holes are pretty small, so any brand or style of tuning machine  could be used. There is also a hole for the fifth string peg. The neck is straight and the only  damage is one of the dowel screws is bent and a small chip on the headstocks rear.  There is an allen  wrench adjustable rod in the neck .  It is accessible from the heel.  The frets are modern width banjo frets and are already beveled. No inlays. I am not familiar with the styles of banjo headstocks , but this one is very nicely shaped. This may be a Ralph Baker neck, from Holyoke Ma. , but I can't verify this.  Great for a luthier / banjo restorer or repairman.
