    Description

Vintage Bacon & Day Silver Bell Tenor Banjo No. 1, Serial #16179, including 3 Mel Bay Instruction Books, more
A classic, original Bacon & Day tenor banjo from the instrument's golden age. Played by my father in various professional settings, including dixieland jazz, theatrical stage show productions and novelty bands, with a distinct resonator sound that is impossible to duplicate.
Loud enough to cut through any ensemble, amplified or not; it may be the loudest banjo you've ever heard!
Manufactured by Frederick Bacon--America's leading banjo virtuoso and innovator from the turn of the century until his passing in the 1940's--this model #1 is a no-frills authentic working banjo as suitable for playing today as it is a collectible display piece.
Measures 33.5" in length from the top of the neck; body is 12" in round. Weighs approximately 15 lbs.
This sale includes three vintage Mel Bay instruction books ("Complete Tenor Banjo Method", "Tenor Banjo Melody Chord Playing System" and "Tenor Banjo Chords in Photo-Diagram Form"). PLUS 5 different picks, 7 A (1st) replacement strings, 2 pitch pipes (4-tone and 13-tone) and original hard-shell case with intact felt lining.
It is heartbreaking to sell it, so it must go to a buyer who is a true aficionado. Like you!
    Display stand not included.
