You are looking at a vintage Banjo owned buy a professional musician. This was played from the 1930s till he passed away. He was 104. I am not a musician so if you need questions answered be gentle with me and we will get through them lol. There is a small split in the wood that does not effect anything and is pictured in the photos. I believe the board is Mother Of Pearl I was told see the pictures for yourself to decide
